What a week it has been! It also marks my first week of work in the F&B sector / non - sports related sector!
It's good to step out of your comfort zone and what you usually do for a while sometimes ... and go try something different and totally unrelated. Makes life interesting, and tests your adaptability all over again.
For you guys who still don't know, I'm working at some cafe in town (near the perenakan museum and city hall) called SOHO7. I asked the boss just yesterday why the weird name ... it was actually supposed to be named after the building, but it also means Son Of the Holy One, and 7 being the perfect number. The boss is apparently also a Christian and hence the name. Cool cafe, very cozy and serves really good and really really fresh coffee - cuz we roast our own beans in small batches almost every other day!
So how's working in a cafe like? Not totally what I expected.
It's hectic, busy, and rather tiring. You got to be on the ball the whole time. Especially when it's lunch time.
My goodness, lunchtime is just madness.
But I kinda like it that way. I'd rather do this than sit in an office all day.
It's dynamic, you get screamed at when you don't do things right or too slow. You get smile, meet, and talk to many many people, and you get regular customers coming in almost everyday. More importantly, you sweat and work hard for the money, literally. You get to clean a gross kitchen and kitchenware. You cannot stop working or take a break until you've done what you're supposed to do and there's pressure to keep people happy.
Just the way I like it.
I missed out the most important thing. You get to eat really good and tasty good. And you get to drink and smell really nice coffee.
I've been asking myself this whole week, and so have my colleagues, why on earth did I decide to get into this industry?! I almost feel like a banglah worker ... pay's very low relatively, and I eat shit everyday.
I've found the answer at the end of the first work week. Cuz it's mirrors cycling.
On the bike, you eat shit. Most of the time. Just like working in the cafe.
On the bike, you get screamed at when you don't do your job well. Just like working in the cafe.
On the bike, you meet and talk to people from many different walks of life. Just like working in the cafe.
On the bike, you sweat and work hard to get results. Just like working in the cafe.
On the bike, you cannot stop pedalling until you've crossed the finish line or finish training. Just like working in the cafe.
On the bike, you train and race for about 5ish hours or so, not too long, just long enough that you can hang in there. Just like working in the cafe.
On the bike, there's pressure from yourself and other teammates cuz you've got a job to do. Just like working in the cafe.
But perhaps the best reason of all: On the bike, the end result - a win, just one, is worth all the hard work and shit - eating. Just like working in the cafe, when people enjoy the food/coffee and being there.
The feeling is just unexplainable.
It's really tiring though. I get to learn a couple of things like making coffee! Next on, to practice coffee making skills and move on to cooking and plating food. If the pay continues to be so low I might have to find an alternative source of income though. Actually no, I will start looking for another source of income soon. I really need my official graduation cert from RP ... Grrr ...
I've made up my mind that I need and DIE DIE MUST train in the morning before work. This week was rather sketchy because of ever - changing work times and not sure what or how long to expect to work for. From next week onwards, boss has said it's 12pm to 5pm. I will definitely have no time and no energy to train after work. So yes, train in the morning. RAIN OR SHINE. Better get my fat ass out and eat more shit.
I WILL BEAT MY ASS TODAY TO KICK YOURS TOMORROW.
I've finally understood what this means.
But oh Lord, I definitely need strength from above to get through!
